Back in October, we hosted our first marketplace-themed meetup on the topic of The Holy Grail of the Marketplace: The Virtuous Cycle. More than 75 marketplace founders and investors attended and made it a great evening.

In case you missed it, you can read some of the key takeaways from the evening’s talks, including a fireside chat with Boris and Uber’s Andrew Chen; growing a B2B marketplace with Shippo’s Mikhail Ledvich; Slava Rubin describing how Indiegogo grew its business; and Anthony Marino on ThredUp’s move to a managed marketplace model.

Today, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting our second meetup in San Francisco, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 5:30pm on Data-Driven Marketplaces.

As many of you know, I have been re-discovering my data roots, spending a lot of time with awesome data scientists and engineers and learning how they build data-driven products. This meetup is particularly special since it aligns with our interest in marketplaces, as well as with our thesis on network effects built around people AND data at scale.

If you’re a founder, data scientist, engineer, product or growth leader who is curious about how you can leverage data science to build a marketplace, this is the event for you!

Event Details & How to RSVP

Learn from Jamie Davidson (Product & Data Platform @ Looker; previously @ HotelTonight, Redpoint), Bala Ganapathy (Product @ Instacart; previously @ Adara) and Jessica Zuniga (Data & Personalization @ Tophatter; previously @ LinkedIn) about:

  • How to A/B test a marketplace, build recommendation engines, and improve discovery and conversion
  • How to seed supply in a data-driven manner and plan your geographical or new customer segment expansion
  • How to optimize (on-demand) logistics, etc.

Q2 2022 Portfolio in Review

It’s hard to believe we are halfway through another year…and the past three months have certainly been a bit of a rollercoaster. The thing about mission-driven founders, though, is they continue to build even during market uncertainty. When you’ve got a clear point of focus, you keep moving forward despite the surrounding turbulence. As Version One turned 10 last month, we reflected about how lucky we are to work with incredible mission-driven founders – and challenging times like this bolster our gratitude.

At Version One, we typically focus on early-stage investments, though we occasionally make exceptions for standout opportunities—like Clio’s Series C and Coinbase’s Series D. These unique investments delivered exceptional returns for V1 and our investors.
